SUMMER VOLLEYBALL CLINICS

The Boston Hurricanes is committed to increasing the level of play in Massachusetts youth volleyball by providing evening summer clinics designed for all levels of experience, led by dedicated coaches and players with a passion for sharing their love of the sport. We offer both general skills + drills clinics that encompass all aspects of the game as well as weekly positional clinics.

Athletes are grouped based on skill level to set them up for success and to learn at the correct pace. Each evening’s plan is curated by our director to maximize learning potential and ensure a strong understanding of ball control and mechanics through drills and games.

All athletes, no matter their level, will receive training through high-volume repetition, game-like scenarios, breakdown of fundamentals, and coaching that balances immediate feedback with self-correction. We also pride ourselves in building not only a strong volleyball player, but a true athlete and well-rounded individual, with emphasis on teamwork, sportsmanship, competition, and accountability.

Every Wednesday while our traditional Tuesday + Thursday clinics are in session, we will be hosting Setting, Defensive, and Offensive clinics on a rotating schedule. Our surprise guest coaches are excited to share their expertise in the position that they played throughout their high school, club, and collegiate careers, and are the best in the field to share their wealth of knowledge. These guest coaches will work together with the clinic director to curate a plan that will allow athletes to develop their fundamentals, learn new techniques, and hone in on their skills in preparation for their high school and club season tryouts. Guest coaches and scheduling will be announced as we get closer to the summer.

Y12

Y12 players are athletes who are just beginning their athletic or volleyball journey, and are twelve years old or younger! We don’t believe you are ever too young or too little to start, making the Hurricane’s Y12 group a perfect place for our smallest athletes.

The Y12s are led by enthusiastic and encouraging coaches as they lead their athletes through drills designed to jumpstart hand/ eye coordination, balance, and overall athleticism paired with volleyball basics like platform passing, setting, and serving.

Especially with Y12s, we coach with keys and specific verbiage to help them form straight platforms, move their feet, and beyond. Y12s utilize volley-lites to look out for our little ones.

Intermediate

Intermediate Clinics are for players who have some experience under their belts and are looking to broaden their scope of play while ensuring they have confidence in their ball control and mechanics.

Perfect for those who have had 1-2 years on an organized team, individual skills are still honed and corrected while athletes are inserted into an increasing number of game- like scenarios.

Basic skills like passing, setting, and serving are reviewed and newer, more advanced skills like attacking, blocking, digging, jump setting and jump serving are introduced.

Beginners

Designed for athletes older than 12 with little to no volleyball experience, Beginners clinics focus on the objectives of understanding the rules of volleyball, building ball control, forming a strong foundation of mechanics, and planting the seeds for excellent teamwork and sportsmanship.

Mechanics are broken down to the most simple of concepts, movements, and terms, meaning we coach with keys and lots of focused repetitions to get our Beginners to feel comfortable with all mechanical facets of volleyball, including but not limited to, platform passing, setting, serving, and hitting.

Every night we aim to build confidence in our new athletes so they feel ready to tackle tryouts in the fall or other skill + drill clinics.

Advanced

Advanced clinics are for players with varsity and club experience, moving at a much faster pace where athlete responsibility and accountability is expected.

Athletes should already be working together cooperatively and know how to conduct themselves as excellent team players. Basics will be reviewed, but most of the Advanced clinics will be fast repetitions segueing into a high number of games and competitive scenarios.

Drills and games will emphasize competition, athleticism, team work, communication, and lots of energy.
