*NEW*! 2025

POSITIONAL VOLLEYBALL CLINICS

Every Wednesday, we’ll be hosting positional clinics working through a different position each night: setting, libero/ defense, pin offense, middle blocking, serving (we will hold two nights of pin offense).

Each evening will feature a position and guest coach who specialized in their respective role. We will be hosting coaches who are playing, have played, or worked with programs such as Regis College, Boston Bounce, and the US Nationals team.

While we believe all athletes should be well- rounded, we also want to offer space to work on specific skills necessary in an athlete’s individual and distinct role. We have designed these positional clinics for athletes who have chosen a position to play, currently play that position for their high school or club team or have been assigned their position by a high school or club coach.

If you have questions about which positional clinics you should/ would like to attend, please feel free to email amandalacey@bostonhurricanes.org.

  • Setter’s Night: Drills targeted to improve a setter’s warmup, footwork, ball placement, eye work, and decision making.

  • Libero/ Defensive Training Night: Concentration on footwork, platform, scooping, eye work, and reaction times.

  • Pin Offense Night: Specialized focus on hitting mechanics, efficient footwork, quick transitions, and creative ways to make points happen when you need it most.

  • Middles Night: Training where a middle won’t feel in the way: focus on not only blocking efficiency and technique, but also different kinds of middle swings, footwork, and transition work.

  • Serving Night: A space to work on and hone your serve, reviewing basics and serving mechanics, different kinds of serves, and different styles of serving.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 9: SETTER’S NIGHT

We are excited to announce that Cameron Ponce, our current Hurricanes Black Men’s team setter, will be joining us to share his setting expertise. Cameron is from California, where he played for his high school and the well- known club Bay to Bay. He then travelled east to play D3 at Johnson & Wales, and later set for Boston Bounce from 2020-2023.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 16: LIBERO/ DEFENSIVE TRAINING NIGHT

For defense and libero training, we are thrilled to have both Orlando Plagata and Kate Truog as guest coaches.

Orlando is a current Hurricanes Black Men’s defensive player, joining us in 2024. Prior to this, he trained in his hometown of Los Angeles, followed by three years at Colby-Sawyer (2019-2022) and two years at Regis College (2023-2024). He was recognized as GNAC defensive player of the week multiple times in 2024, and the statistics show it: he ended the 2024 season with 195 defensive digs, adding to his 868 digs over his entire college career. Orlando was recognized as third in total defensive digs in the GNAC and ninth in career digs at Regis.

Kate is a local athlete and coach who is also proud to be a part of Regis Pride. Kate was a libero for four years at Brookline High School, where she simultaneously played club volleyball. She is entering her senior year at Regis as a libero, boasting 7 years of defensive specialist experience. Kate is also a club volleyball coach, currently serving as the head coach for Lionheart’s 14 Synergy girls’ team and assisting the 16 Valiants boys’ team.
